Robin Canup

Dr. Robin Canup received her Ph.D. in Astrophysics, Planetary and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Colorado, and joined Southwest Research Institute in 1998.  An Associate Vice President, she leads SwRI's Boulder office's staff of 90.  Her main research areas are the origins of planets and satellites, and she is a Principal Investigator in NASA's Emerging Worlds, Planetary Geology and Geophysics, and LASER programs, and is a Co-Investigator in ISET, the SwRI led team of NASA’s SSERVI program.

Dr. Canup's recent research projects address the origin and early evolution of the Earth/Moon system in the Giant-Impact scenario, hydrodynamical simulations of large-scale planetary collisions, the formation of gas planet satellite systems, the origin of Pluto-Charon via a giant impact, the origin of Phobos and Deimos, and the formation of Saturn's rings and inner satellites.
