Outflow Channel Source Regions: Examination of Possible Regional Subsidence

I propose to examine topography of the source regions of several outflow channels, including Maja Valles, Shalbatana Valles, Gangis Chasma, and Echus Chasma. I intend to take the maximum and minimum volumes of water estimated to create an outflow channel and determine the potential range of subsidence expected at the source regions (assuming reasonable range of porosity, ice/water distribution, etc.).

In particular, I shall explore the lateral extent and geometry of these potential subsidence estimates. I shall then examine individual MOLA profiles over these source areas to asses the evidence for regional subsidence and compare these actual values to the estimated range of values.
