Geoffrey Stetson (02/04/04)
My name is Geoffrey Vaughan Stetson. I am 19 years old and come from Columbus, Ohio. I have loved science since I was a little kid. My favorite topics were, like a lot of young boys, dinosaurs and space. I used to read all I could about space, build rocket ships out of legos and eat space ice cream. I knew someday we would explore a planet in depth but I didn't know when. Now that time has come. I am so excited to be on the cusp of discovery. The information we will be learning will be as current as it gets. I wanted to take this course to witness history being made first hand in an area that I have so much interest.
I took astronomy last semester (planets, the solar system and basic astronomy), now I am taking the follow up course (cosmology). This information could become useful in class to provide background information for discussions. I also hope I can bring creativity to our plans for the future. Eagerness and an open mind are also things that I can contribute to the class.
A greater understanding of space exploration, past, present and future, is what I plan on getting out of this course. Talking with people who have been directly involved with space exploration will provide a side that many people never get to see. I also plan on getting a better look at what another planet in our solar system is like.I am most excited about getting into the virtual reality simulator. I have always wanted to use one and to be able to explore another planet will be incredible. I am also interested to hear where people think we will be going in the future. With all the information we are piecing together in this class, I feel we can make a pretty good estimate of what is going to be the future of the space program.
